Charleston, South Carolina is one of the oldest cities in the country. So, if you are interested in historic Charleston real estate, you will not have to look far. This city’s center as well as many of its neighborhoods, date back more than three-hundred years.
Downtown Charleston is the starting point. Mansions built in the Greek Rival as well as the Italianate styles offer views of Charleston Harbor.
In the South of Broad neighborhood townhomes built in historic buildings are available. Living in this neighborhood means that restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and amazing views of the Harbor, are all within strolling distance.
The City of Charleston has a reputation for preserving its history, especially its historic structures. Evidence of this reputation can be seen in the French Quarter neighborhood. Many properties in the area are listed on the Historic National Register.

The Ansonborough neighborhood may offer some of the best examples of the historical architecture in the Charleston real estate market. Wall, Pinckney and East Bay streets all offer stately mansions, built in the 1800s. Many of them before the Civil War. Homes built in the Charleston Single and Greek Revival styles give the neighborhood a sense of grace and that is accented by the courtyards, gardens and verandas of these homes. Many properties in the neighborhood are also included either individually or in groups, on the Historic National Register.
